Redefine art for the digital age
Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS) brings together students and faculty from across the UW — artists, scientists and engineers — to empower the next generation of artists. In our undergraduate minor, students explore cutting-edge areas such as video art, 3D sound, mechatronics, robotics, physical computing and fabrication. Students can focus on one media area or take classes across all formats. The DXARTS Ph.D. program prepares artists to pursue original research that pioneers new art forms at the intersection of creativity and technology. Our faculty are international leaders in the digital and experimental arts. They work with nonprofits and corporations, and exhibit and perform at museums, concerts, galleries and festivals around the world.

Where fabrication is fab
The DXARTS Digital Fabrication Lab (Fab Lab), opened in 2019, gives students access to advanced computer-aided design, manufacturing and prototyping machines as well as traditional power and hand tools. The lab includes a woodshop, metal shop, electronics lab, CAD workstations, 3D printers and laser cutters. The facility also houses the DXARTS Observatory — a flexible project space for installation research and exhibitions.
