Mathematics and creativity

Mathematics research comprises both classical and groundbreaking areas of interest, including collaborations across disciplines and communities. For example, the department’s Washington Experimental Mathematics Lab brings together students, faculty, and community members to collaborate on experimental, computational, and often visual projects. Our interdisciplinary work includes collaboration with faculty and coursework in Art + Art History + Design, reinforcing mathematics as a creative discipline.
