What is Noh?

September 22, 7:00 – 8:30 pm
Online

Noh plays have been performed continuously in Japan for the past 600 years — the oldest extant dramatic tradition in the world. Paul Atkins, UW professor of classical Japanese, will provide an introduction to this fascinating dramatic form, including its performance traditions, themes, history, and philosophy. Bodies of Discovery

August through November
Downtown Seattle

Bodies of Discovery is an expansive group exhibition featuring performances, films, and installations curated by the Henry Art Gallery, On the Boards, and Velocity Dance Center. Set and performed in outdoor plazas and parks throughout downtown Seattle, these works explore the (re)activation of the physical body in our again-accessible public space and will create sites of artistic discovery in unexpected places.

Cruisin’ Around Washington

Through October 31
Burke Museum

This bite-sized exhibit takes you on a tour around Washington state as fossils come to life through the art of scientific surrealist Ray Troll. The exhibit is an extension of Troll’s work, complete with specimens from Burke collections. Free admission for Husky cardholders.

A Conversation with Congressman Adam Smith on China

Given his current and previous committee assignments and extensive travel, Washington state Congressman Adam Smith — chair of the House Armed Services Committee — has unique insights into today’s major national security issues. Smith will talk about China and U.S. foreign policy in this talk presented by the Jackson School of International Studies, in partnership with the East Asia Center and China Studies.
