Three creative thinkers—an artist, an art historian, and a neuroscientist—are collaborating on Art and the Brain, a DXARTS course that explores the potential melding of art and neuroscience.

Death Over Dinner is a web resource that encourages people to host dinners for family and friends to discuss end-of-life issues. To date, Death Over Dinner has been the impetus for more than 1,000 dinners in 17 countries.

Five UW graduate students recently developed The Pivot Project, aimed at combating human trafficking. Their weapon of choice? Design. The project won the 2013 Design Ignites Change Idea Award and is a finalist in the Industrial Designers Society of America’s Ideas competition.

Martha Gonzalez and her band Quetzal won a 2013 Grammy for their album Imaginaries. Her work as a recording artist is intertwined with her academic work as a PhD candidate in Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies.

A seminar course developed by and for graduate students aims to improve scientists' ability to explain their research to the public. Now participants will use their newfound skills as they speak at an upcoming public lecture series. 

The swimming pool in Hutchinson Hall is gone, but new Drama Design Program facilities built directly over the pool are making a splash of their own, with studios, classrooms, and other spaces. 

Two students from the Master of Communication in Digital Media Program spent a fortnight at sea, joining scientists on a research mission and capturing their activities through photographs and video.

At the Speech and Hearing Clinic's Communication Camp, children work on their communication skills with the assistance of graduate students, who gain valuable clinical experience. 

Through the School of Drama's Adopt an Actor program, donors are paired with an actor entering his or her final year of the Professional Actor Training Program.
